The UK’s leading provider of testing, inspection and compliance services has awarded the charity with a donation, which has been raised from fundraising activities organised across several SOCOTEC sites in the UK. Throughout 2017, SOCOTEC encouraged staff to dress informally on set Friday’s in exchange for a small donation. Other fundraising activities included bake sales.
Following employee engagement workshops, SOCOTEC decided towards the end of 2017 that they would like to support one national charity across the group. Children with Cancer UK was one of 10 shortlisted. The shortlist was selected based on the organisation’s charitable commitment percentage; this is the per cent of total donations spent in direct furtherance of the charitable mission, as opposed to administrative expenses.
Children with Cancer UK is the leading national children’s charity dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer. Almost 4,000 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer every year in the UK and the charity aims to determine the causes, find cures and provide care for the children and their families.
Ian Sparks, CEO, SOCOTEC UK, commented: “Each year, SOCOTEC shortlists ten charities and all funds raised from Informal Fridays and other activities are donated to the chosen charity and we are delighted that as a company we managed to raise over £1,600 for Children with Cancer UK, which is such a worthwhile cause.”
