    Field-Based Jobs

As a people-driven business, field-based jobs are integral to the testing, inspection and compliance services that SOCOTEC provides. From van drivers and engineers to geologists, field technicians and drillers, the business offers a wealth of client-facing roles dependent on your area of expertise.

    What is a field-based job?

A field-based job is one where the individual provides a service out in the field. At SOCOTEC, this could be meeting clients face-to-face, driving to a site to deliver a service or drilling on a construction site.

    Drilling jobs

As a driller for SOCOTEC, you will have the opportunity to work across a number of high profile projects across the UK. You will work with innovative, high quality equipment and adopt a broad range of techniques, including rotary drill rigs, trial pitting and borehole drilling.

    Van/fleet driver jobs

At SOCOTEC, many of our employees are registered van drivers as part of their day-to-day roles, as they are required to be out on site to provide our range of testing, inspection and compliance services to our client base. What’s more, our Ground Investigation team is FORS accredited, meaning that we are better equipped as an organisation to offer clients an environmentally conscious, safe and efficient site investigation service.

    Field technician

As a field technician at SOCOTEC, you could be working in a number of different areas across the business, from materials testing and water treatment to ground investigation and occupational hygiene. While a field-based job can prove demanding, no two days are the same, with the opportunity to work both independently and part of a wider team, as well as get stuck into a variety of testing, inspection and compliance-based tasks.

What jobs can I get with a civil engineering degree?

A civil engineering degree is invaluable in that it provides you with a host of transferable skills, many of which would prove suitable for a role within SOCOTEC’s infrastructure division (such as borehole drilling). It requires delegates to possess a number of key attributes, including attention to detail, time management, a strong level of communication and an analytical mindset.

How can I get a field-based job at SOCOTEC?

As there are a wide variety of field-based jobs at SOCOTEC, the qualifications required for you to be eligible for the role depend on the role you are interested in applying for. For entry level roles, we require a minimum of four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, A Levels/BTEC qualifications or a degree in a relevant subject. Meanwhile, for roles at a more senior level, you should have a solid background in your area of expertise, as well as having acquired on-the-job training and qualifications such as UKATA and CITB-accredited courses.
