It has been six months since SOCOTEC UK & Ireland completed its acquisition of Lloyds Datum Group (LDG), marking a significant step in its strategy to strengthen its infrastructure, civil and geotechnical capabilities across the UK and Ireland.
Since this acquisition, the strategic intent behind the move has been realised, with integration progressing and the combined business unlocking new opportunities.

Six months on: progress and integration
Strengthening capability in Infrastructure
A key driver behind the acquisition was LDG’s strong reputation in specialist services, including pile foundation testing, structural and geotechnical monitoring, and anchoring/micro-piling solutions.
These capabilities have complemented SOCOTEC’s established services in the UK and Ireland creating a more comprehensive range of services and geographical footprint.
Since joining SOCOTEC, delivering as Lloyds Datum (LD), there have been some great examples of where LD and SOCOTEC have undertaken projects together giving a greater ability to service clients than what would have been possible beforehand.
LD’s expertise is increasingly being deployed across SOCOTEC’s wider project portfolio, particularly in complex infrastructure environments where specialist knowledge is critical. This enhanced capability is already improving the group’s ability to deliver end-to-end solutions, strengthening its position in a competitive and evolving market.
Examples of jointly delivered projects include Dynamic Pile Load Testing in Dundee, at Great Yarmouth Quayside and Transpennine Upgrade (TRU). Thermal Integrity Profiling at Greystones Lifeboat Station, Crosshole Sonic Logging in Dublin and Maintained Pile Load Testing in Newark. There is also ongoing positive discussions regarding open joint tenders and efficiencies on the broader capability range of services.

Measured approach to integration
Integrating LD has followed a deliberate and measured approach, prioritising operational continuity and the preservation of specialist expertise. In doing so, this has supported a smooth transition and helped maintain the high standards and relationships that underpin LD’s success. LD has increasingly benefited from SOCOTEC’s scale and resources whilst also retaining core attributes that have been part of its success historically.
Expanding geographic reach
Through LD, SOCOTEC has established a stronger presence in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, complementing its existing UK footprint. This expanded reach enhances the group’s ability to support clients across a broader range of regions and projects. The integration is also facilitating greater collaboration across regional teams, enabling knowledge sharing and more flexible deployment of specialist resources.
Early signs of commercial synergy
While still at an early stage, there are encouraging signs of commercial synergy emerging from the combined business. Opportunities for cross-selling are beginning to materialise, with SOCOTEC’s client base gaining access to LD’s specialist services and equipment, and vice versa. The strengthened offering is better positioning the group to compete for larger and more complex multidisciplinary projects. These developments are expected to build momentum over the coming months as integration deepens and awareness of the combined capabilities increases.
Looking ahead
Six months on, the acquisition of Lloyds Datum can be viewed as strategically sound and operationally stable, with integration progressing in line with expectations. The first six months have laid a solid foundation. As these elements come together, the full value of the acquisition is expected to become increasingly evident. With continued focus and alignment, SOCOTEC and Lloyds Datum are well positioned to build on this progress and deliver long-term value for clients, employees, and the wider infrastructure sector.
The focus during the next phase will be:
- Deepening the integration across systems and processes
- Increasing joint project delivery
- Driving revenue growth through cross-selling and expanded service offerings
- Further defining LD’s role within the SOCOTEC Group
It has been a really positive and enjoyable first six months within the SOCOTEC Group. The collaboration between SOCOTEC and LD will continue to evolve, with further joint projects, shared systems and career opportunities expected as integration across the Group grows.
