SOCOTEC UK’s apprentice, Amy Blenkley, has now completed her level three business administrator apprenticeship with a distinction. To celebrate Amy’s achievement, we sat down with her to reflect on the training programme and what she now has to look forward to in her career.

How have you found the apprenticeship here at SOCOTEC?
I’ve loved my apprenticeship experience with SOCOTEC. There are many opportunities which I have been given which has helped me to learn about the work SOCOTEC does across the country. I’ve received constant support from colleagues while completing my apprenticeship so overall, it’s been a really positive experience.
What did your programme entail?
The business administrator level three apprenticeship with TIRO consisted of a variety of online sessions and coursework. I delivered presentations summarising my knowledge of SOCOTEC and what SOCOTEC does. To become a successful business administrator, I had to show what personal skills were required, including social, organisation and IT skills. Once I had completed my coursework I had an endpoint assessment which consisted of a multiple-choice exam. I was then required to be interviewed by the exam board to discuss the process followed at SOCOTEC and how I contribute to the team.
What are your next steps for your career?
My next steps are to continue learning and developing my knowledge in new areas. I would like to progress even further with the opportunities here at SOCOTEC to begin the level four business administration course or complete a qualification in another area to branch out.
Would you recommend an apprenticeship at SOCOTEC?
Yes, I would definitely recommend a SOCOTEC apprenticeship to anyone as there are so many opportunities here.
What accomplishment you have achieved during your programme are you most proud of and why?
My biggest accomplishment during my programme was receiving my distinction result. I am proud of my result as I put in a lot of work in order to achieve this. I am also proud of having integrated myself as part of the team and showing that I am capable of handling high demanding responsibilities.
What advice would you give to our current apprentices?
To make as much as you can out of the experience, there is a lot on offer at SOCOTEC. This ranges from frequent webinars to online courses, which gives you the opportunity to learn more skills and expand your knowledge.
What is your new job title and what are your responsibilities?
My job title is now an administrator. My responsibilities are to raise purchase orders, keep a track of site visits and set up new site visits, send out emails to clients and answer telephone calls. With the new job role, the responsibility has increased dramatically since I’m able to work much more independently now.
