Herbosch-Kiere was contracted for the delivery of all permanent and temporary works in connection with the stabilisation of 12 caissons on the eastern breakwater. The steel reinforcement in the concrete on the breakwater, built during the 1970s, was beginning to corrode, risking weakening of the structure. The remedial works were to form a concrete annulus within the existing caisson shell and refill these with ballast material and concrete.
