SOCOTEC to Present at 13th International Symposium for Nuclear and Environmental Radiochemical Analysis
SOCOTEC, the UK’s leading provider of testing, inspection and compliance services, will be joining other nuclear technical experts for the 13th International Symposium on Nuclear and Environmental Radiochemical Analysis.
An international forum, the Symposium - held every four years by the Radiochemistry Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry - provides technical experts in the fields of nuclear science with an opportunity to present their research in all aspects of Nuclear and Environmental Radiochemical Analysis.
Throughout the day, a range of topics will be covered: environmental radiochemistry for migration, speciation and surveillance; waste characterisation, radionuclide behaviour and geological disposal for nuclear industry decommissioning; radiation detection and imaging; radiochemical analysis and nuclear forensics.
Representing SOCOTEC, Jasper Hattink, laboratory manager for SOCOTEC’s radiochemistry division, will be delivering a short presentation into the holding times and preservation for environmental radiochemical samples. With the validity of test results heavily dependent on sample integrity, Jasper’s evaluation into ISO standard guidelines examines the integrity of a group of radionuclides when stored under different conditions. The presentation also summarises a range of shelf-life tests performed by SOCOTEC’s nuclear laboratory.
Roger Benzing, head of nuclear chemistry is also set to attend the symposium, commented:
“Sharing our knowledge at this well-respected technical event is important for a collaborative approach in progressing science and nuclear research. With so many other key industry representatives in attendance, SOCOTEC is delighted to be among those invited and we look forward to making the most of this networking opportunity.”
SOCOTEC provides radiochemical testing and analysis services to a range of clients, including government agencies, water companies, nuclear decommissioning contractors and environmental consultancies. As well as having extensive experience in radiological sampling and monitoring, SOCOTEC’s field monitoring teams are UKAS accredited* for Radiation Monitoring and Environmental Sampling using guidance from the Science Report SC030308 “Best Practice Techniques for Environmental Radiological Monitoring”.
