As the UK’s leading testing, inspection and compliance company, SOCOTEC, formerly ESG, is proud to have supported the Wood Recyclers’ Association (WRA) by accommodating a recent meeting and site tour for WRA members.
The WRA is the trade association for the waste wood recycling sector representing its members’ needs within the Government – working closely with the Environment Agency and DEFRA - offering networking opportunities and raising industry standards, as well as providing advice to members for any affecting issues.
WRA members meet every quarter, with the recent meeting held at the Mercure Hotel, near Burton upon Trent on 6 December. Key speakers from the industry delivered presentations on a range of subjects and issues that are currently topical within the waste wood sector.
Speakers included Tim Johnson from the Health & Safety Executive and Richard Coulson from energy company RWE.
Jim Clay, operations director, Infrastructure & Energy, SOCOTEC, also presented at the meeting, taking the opportunity to share SOCOTEC’s expertise in testing, sampling and analysis of waste derived fuels, including recycled wood and wood pellets, with members of the WRA. After the presentations, many delegates took advantage of SOCOTEC’s invitation to tour their state-of-the-art UKAS accredited testing laboratories at their Bretby site.
With clients across a range of sectors, including wood recyclers, reprocessors, renewable energy suppliers and Energy from Waste facilities, SOCOTEC understands the importance of solid biofuel testing to ensure consistent quality, maximum efficiency and compliance with fuel specifications.
Jim Clay commented: “There is a growing need for consistent solid biofuels to ensure a smooth transition from fossil fuels to sustainable energy. We have unrivalled expertise and experience in the evolving energy supply market. In fact, the company has represented the UK internationally during the cooperative development of EN and ISO sampling and analysis standards.
“Being able to show members of the WRA around our UKAS accredited laboratories is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate all of our technical capabilities as a leading testing, sampling and analysis provider.”
