Outstanding Occupational Hygienist Recognised at Society Awards
An occupational hygienist from SOCOTEC has been recognised by the BOHS, the Chartered Society for Worker Health Protection, at an awards ceremony during the Society’s annual conference, Occupational Hygiene 2018.
BOHS’ annual event is the leading international conference in the field of worker health protection in the UK, focusing on occupational hygiene and the prevention of occupational ill-health and disease. This year’s prestigious awards were presented at the conference’s gala dinner, where the BOHS Ted King Award was presented to SOCOTEC occupational hygiene team leader, Robert Preston, for being the top candidate in the Certificate of Operational Competence in the Occupational Hygiene Examinations.
David Gough, operations director, said:
“I am delighted that Rob has been recognised by the BOHS. He has been with SOCOTEC for a number of years and, having completed his training with us as an occupational hygienist, he was recently appointed to the post of team leader at our Bretby site, managing a team of nine hygienists. His hard work and dedication to occupational hygiene are evident in his outstanding examination results, and also in the feedback from clients and our ongoing relationships with them.”
Robert Preston said: “I am thrilled and overwhelmed to have received this award. I joined SOCOTEC (then ESG) in 2011 as a trainee in occupational hygiene, having been attracted by the team support, on-site training opportunities, as well as the personal development through external courses including the BOHS qualifications. Now as team leader, I really enjoy getting out onto lots of different sites, learning about the new processes, meeting clients and workers and using new equipment. Each day is different and I am learning about different monitoring and control strategies all the time which hopefully I can also pass on to clients and colleagues.”
David continued: “As well as a great personal achievement for Rob, the BOHS awards are a means of recognising and rewarding ongoing leadership and excellence in the field of occupational hygiene. This award further demonstrates the calibre and expertise that we have here within SOCOTEC’s hygiene teams across the UK.”
