About Gugu Sibanda
Gugu is a Director of Commercial Risk at SOCOTEC UK Limited. He is a legally qualified quantity surveyor with over 15 years of experience in legal and construction industry roles. In his current role, Gugu is responsible for Commercial & Corporate Risk, Legal & Compliance Services, Risk Management, Insurance and Strategic Advisory functions.
Throughout his career, he has provided commercial and contractual advice across building, civil engineering, and infrastructure sectors, notably delivering over £100 million of geotechnical services to major UK projects including HS2, Lower Thames Crossing, Cross Rail, and Highways England.
His expertise encompasses tendering and procurement, contract risk assessment, dispute resolution, claims management, and corporate transaction due diligence. Gugu has extensive knowledge of various contract forms (JCT, NEC3, FIDIC, ICC, ICE) and regularly provides training on contractual and commercial risk awareness.

Gugu started working as a quantity surveyor in 2016, following seven years’ experience in the legal industry. He joined SOCOTEC UK in 2017 as a Project Quantity Surveyor and has since held several senior roles, including UK Commercial Manager and Commercial Risk Director. Gugu is now a Director at SOCOTEC Advisory Ltd.
