We work with some of the largest contractors in the UK to support their CDM Advisor by preparing the Health and Safety file for a project.
We take a practical common sense approach to Health and Safety files. They must be easy to read and to find your way around. We’ll provide hard copies if you ask us to, but increasingly our plans are produced in fully indexed pdf documents – easier to search and better for the environment.
CDM Advisor/Principal Designer
For us, a CDM Advisor/Principal Designer is an enabler, someone who makes sure things run smoothly, not someone who wraps up your project in red tape. Our team of CDM Advisors/Principal Designers accept all the responsibilities and legal obligations placed on them by the regulations. They are clear about their obligation to protect the workforce, the end users and duty holders in line with the law. But at the same time they are dedicated to focusing on project deliverables and targets, taking the bureaucracy out of their role.
They’ll use their excellent communications skills to build effective working relationships but they won’t waste your money by attending unnecessary meetings or producing unnecessary reams of paperwork.
We appreciate that every project is different, so we don’t stick to fee scales or percentages. We’d rather talk to you about the level of involvement needed to manage the very individual risks on each scheme and give you value for money by charging accordingly.
CDM Support for Principal Contractors
Many construction contractors who have their own CDM Advisor will call us as a highly skilled extra pair of hands to prepare a construction phase plan or sustain ongoing project management tasks. Because we have so much experience in CDM practice, we can easily slot into any assistance role required by a contractor. We speak the same language as contractors and we share the same high standards, ensuring cost-effective compliance through sensible risk management - the kind of standards and values that set benchmarks for others.
CDM Assurance Audit
CDM 2015 covers concept to completion of a structure's life. The assurance audit on behalf of clients is a mechanism to delve into the ways duties are discharged on each project and ensure that clients have not only the right processes in place, but that they are physically working as intended during the life of a project. From understanding the passage of risk information, the application of the Principles of Prevention through design, to the measures in place for Health and Safety files presented in ways that end users get value from - the assurance audit covers all elements of CDM compliance through the entire project. The audit is not intended to focus on site "safety" conditions during the build. Its focus is on the various elements of a project's life - through design AND construction phases, identifying where and how risk is managed and mitigated.
We work closely with clients to develop tailored policies in relation to CDM 2015, reflecting their arrangements for the discharge of their duties. CDM 2015 is written in a way to empower clients to set out their own way of managing their responsibilities under the regulations, in a way that directly reflects the way they procure design, projects, work streams and construction delivery activity. We work with those clients to ensure not only the policy commitment is there, but to implement the mechanics of how those arrangements will be delivered.
