27 November 2014

This month, ESG, the UK’s leading provider of environmental inspection, testing and compliance services has secured a contract with Keltbray, to provide Foundation Testing services for the new Elephant and Castle regeneration project on the Newington Butts site.

The project will deliver one of the largest private rental developments seen in the capital for decades, with a total of 462 units being built. The developments design includes a compact, slender tower, accentuated by suspended corner balconies that will offer panoramic views of London. As well as having residential units, the site will also include a new theatre space for the Southwark Playhouse, a café and further retail and marketing spaces  helping to create a town centre that will provide employment, better homes, improved transport links and community facilities for residents.

ESG will be providing a variety of services for the project which will be completed in 2017, including, maintained load testing, pile integrity assessments, on site concrete mix quality and cube testing. Martyn Ellis, operations director of ESG’s Foundation Testing team commented: “This project is a great opportunity for ESG to showcase the services we can offer in the materials testing space with another high profile central London project. The 44 storey tower will be the largest private rental development of its kind in the UK and it is a great opportunity to work closely with Keltbray as we have a real synergy in our vision for the infrastructure project.

Our fully accredited team, will perform a vital role in the design, verification and quality control process required for the suitable installation of piled foundations. Our wide ranging experience and expertise puts us at the forefront of piled foundation testing activities in terms of quality, experience, capability, resources, innovation and is supported by a network of personnel located throughout the UK who provide a rapid and personal service”.

Stuart Norman, piling managing director for Keltbray also commented on the project: “We have a long standing working relationship with the Foundation Testing team at ESG. The Newington Butts project will be a great opportunity for the two companies to provide materials testing services that complement each other for an iconic piece of real estate. Based on the testing (both static and CPT) regime and the pile solution approach adopted, we have managed to offer significant savings in time and money to our client based on the alternative scheme design”.
