I want to be contacted by an expertEmily Herbert is SOCOTEC UK & Ireland’s Team Leader of the metals department within the Environmental Science division. Emily has progressed within SOCOTEC through the fast-track management programme, working hard to develop her skills.

Emily on…her career at SOCOTEC
“I started the programme as a Senior Reporting Officer in Forensics, and now I am the Team Leader of the Metals department in Environmental Chemistry, as a direct line manager for 10 team members.”
Emily on…becoming a manager
“After a couple of years in my previous role, I was ready for a new challenge. I’ve always wanted the opportunity to develop a team and help people to progress in their career. I’ve had some influential managers in my own career, and I recognise the importance of a reliable and approachable manager, and I wanted to develop my skills so that I can become this person for my team as well.
“The fast-track management programme is designed for future leaders to develop their management skills through mentorship, hands-on experience and formal training. Throughout the programme, I completed a Level 3 Team Leader apprenticeship, alongside working in a Team Leader role, with support from senior leadership to develop my skills and behaviours.”
Emily on…her personal growth
“My biggest takeaway has been the growth in confidence I have had. It can be really nerve-wracking meeting new people and having to integrate in a new team, but everyone has been so welcoming, and with the support of the senior leaders, I’ve been able to push myself out of my comfort zone in ways I never thought I would be able to.”
Emily on…advice for pursuing management
“Go for it! It is a great opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills, and develop your current skills. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.”
