Energy auditing to shape energy futures. Enhance your organisation's energy performance and reduce your carbon footprint.
SOCOTEC's in-depth technical energy audits highlight recommendations for improvements to the organisations' energy performance.
Our Approach
Our approach to reporting of utility, energy and carbon management takes the form of two distinct areas including:
- Energy Benchmarking - Details the performance of a site against published industrial benchmarks including ‘Typical’ and ‘Best Practice’ consumptions.
- Site Specific Opportunities - Identifies potential opportunities for reducing utility/energy consumption and associated carbon emissions on site from specific projects and functions across buildings, industrial process and transport.

Talk to our experts
These are categorised into three distinct types of opportunity:
No Cost/Low Cost
Immediate opportunities with associated paybacks of under two years.
Low Cost/Moderate Cost
Proposed opportunities that if implemented would provide paybacks on average of between two and four years.
Higher Cost
Opportunities associated with longer term objectives. These are often associated with larger projects or the potential introduction and include renewable technologies and Low/Zero carbon technologies (LZCs).
From these results we will be able to provide a detailed plan of action and identify clear objectives and target points for progress.
We see it as a continuous process of assessment, monitoring and management, constantly looking for new ways of using technology and behavioural change to maximise your energy efficiency.
It is important that the information reported in the energy audit is viewed as a long term, and ever rolling programme, that will provide benefits far and beyond the low cost “quick wins” that will almost certainly be part of the initial results

What is an energy audit?
An energy audit represents a systematic assessment of how your business consumes energy across all operations and facilities. This comprehensive evaluation examines everything from building systems and equipment to operational practices, creating a detailed picture of your current energy consumption patterns.
Professional energy experts conduct thorough site inspections using specialized equipment to measure actual energy use and identify inefficiencies. The process involves analyzing energy bills, interviewing key people about operational procedures, and conducting detailed energy surveys of your premises.
The primary goal focuses on uncovering where energy waste occurs and quantifying potential savings opportunities. Through this structured examination, businesses gain valuable insights that form the foundation for achieving net zero targets while reducing energy bills and moving toward a more sustainable future.
What are energy auditing services?
Energy auditing services represent professional service delivery by qualified consultants who bring technical expertise directly to your premises. These specialists combine advanced measurement tools with industry knowledge to analyze your facility's energy performance against established benchmarks.
The service encompasses multiple phases, from initial data gathering through to presenting actionable recommendations tailored to your specific operations. Certified auditors examine building fabric, mechanical systems, lighting installations, and operational controls to build a complete understanding of energy flows.
What sets professional energy auditing apart is the best value approach to identifying improvement opportunities. Rather than generic advice, you receive prioritized recommendations with detailed cost-benefit analysis, enabling informed decision-making about which energy efficiency measures will deliver maximum return on investment for your business.
What are the three types of energy auditing?
Energy auditing operates through three progressive levels, each offering different depths of analysis to match your business requirements and budget constraints. These structured approaches range from basic walk-through assessments to comprehensive investment-grade evaluations.
Level 1 audits provide rapid identification of obvious energy-saving opportunities through brief site visits and utility bill analysis. This preliminary examination typically takes just a few hours and focuses on immediate, low-cost improvements that can deliver quick returns.
Level 2 audits involve detailed system analysis with specialized monitoring equipment and comprehensive data collection over several days. Level 3 represents the most thorough investigation, incorporating precise measurements, computer modeling, and extensive financial analysis to support major capital investments and performance guarantees.
What is an energy assessment?
The assessment phase transforms raw data collection into actionable intelligence through systematic evaluation methodology. Our experts begin by establishing baseline consumption patterns using precise measurement techniques across all energy-consuming systems within your facility.
During this critical stage, we analyze building performance against industry benchmarks while identifying consumption anomalies that indicate inefficiencies. Temperature monitoring, power quality analysis, and load profiling provide the technical foundation for accurate recommendations.
The evaluation methodology incorporates both quantitative measurements and qualitative observations from operational staff interviews. This dual approach ensures that human factors influencing energy use receive proper consideration alongside mechanical system performance, creating a complete picture of your facility's energy dynamics.
