SOCOTEC EXPERT WEBINAR SERIES' CONTINUES!
Reaction to fire testing is a vital part of demonstrating the fire performance of construction products, helping manufacturers, specifiers and contractors meet regulatory and compliance requirements. However, the route from laboratory testing to achieving a recognised classification can often be complex.
In this session, attendees will follow a product's journey through the reaction to fire testing process, gaining a practical understanding of the key stages involved in achieving a BS EN 13501-1 classification. Led by Andrew Hutchison of UKTC, the session will explore how products are prepared, tested and assessed, and how the resulting data is used to determine classification.
The webinar will also explain how to interpret classification reports, providing attendees with the knowledge needed to understand fire performance ratings and apply them confidently within their projects and organisations.
What You Will Learn
During this webinar, attendees will discover:
- The purpose and importance of reaction to fire testing
- The key stages involved in taking a product from testing through to BS EN 13501-1 classification
- How test results are assessed and used to determine classification
- How to read and interpret classification reports with confidence
- The role of reaction to fire classifications in supporting regulatory compliance
- Common challenges and considerations when assessing fire performance
This webinar is ideal for professionals involved in the manufacture, specification, testing or approval of construction products. Attendees will gain a practical understanding of the standards, testing methodologies and assessment processes behind BS EN 13501-1 classifications, helping them interpret classification reports with confidence, support compliance and make informed product decisions. The session will also highlight the role of accredited testing in validating product performance and contributing to safer, more compliant buildings.

UKTC opens multi-million-pound state-of-the-art second firehall
United Kingdom Testing & Certification (UKTC), A SOCOTEC Company, has officially opened its new advanced fire testing firehall, representing a multi-million-pound investment in its fire safety testing infrastructure.
The new firehall became operational in May, and was formally opened by Dame Judith Hackitt DBE FREng, at an event on 9th July, in which several of UKTC’s clients and special guests invited from across key industry organisations were in attendance. Dame Judith is a distinguished chemical engineer and former Chair of the UK Health and Safety Executive, and led the landmark Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety following the Grenfell Tower tragedy, fundamentally reshaping building safety standards across the United Kingdom. The new firehall became operational in early May, following successful initial flame tests and incorporates cutting-edge technology that allows operators to switch between vertical and horizontal testing orientations at the push of a button – a feature that significantly enhances its testing flexibility and efficiency.
Fire Resistance: Everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask
Fire Resistance testing plays a crucial role in product safety and compliance, and this session offers a clear, accessible look at how a modern Fire Testing Laboratory operates—from its historical roots to today’s evolving standards.
You’ll learn about:
- How Fire Resistance tests are planned, prepared, and carried out inside a working laboratory
- Why a tailored test plan can reduce risk, avoid retests, and support stronger performance claims
- The future direction of Fire Resistance testing across the UK and Europe, including regulatory and technical shifts
- Attendees will leave with a stronger understanding of the testing process, helping them make more informed decisions when developing, specifying, or assessing fire‑resistant products.
