SOCOTEC UK & Ireland proudly sponsored the UK & Ireland Spill Association’s ‘Turf and Surf’ Conference for inland and marine spills between 16th-17th June 2026.
The Turf and Surf conference brought together experts from a variety of sectors impacted by spills, including, regulators, manufacturers, and response professionals to discuss remediation strategies, spill response, and the future of environmental spill management.
Day one focused on inland spills, and day two on marine spills – the event provided the opportunity for knowledge and research into the various technologies and methods used to prevent and respond to spills to be shared between peers.
SOCOTEC is proud to be the silver sponsor of this conference. These events stimulate collaboration and lively debates, allowing us to come together and collaborate to fix the ongoing environmental issue of spills.
With PFAS contributing to spills as a contaminant, Geraint Pumford, Technical Specialist at SOCOTEC UK & Ireland, gave a presentation about PFAS sampling and analysis, discussing the analytical aspect of PFAS remediation and spills. Geraint also featured on the PFAS panel, co-chaired by Amy Parekh-Pross, Chemistry Project Manager and Technical Associate at SOCOTEC UK & Ireland and chair of the PFAS working group. The panel discussed PFAS analysis, remediation strategies, and regulatory guidance, with insights from experts in PFAS remediation technologies. It was a privilege to have Paul Nathanail, leading PFAS expert, involved with the conference. He opened the PFAS panel and wrapped up the session with valuable insights into issues regarding PFAS regulation and remediation. Paul stressed the importance of 'following the science' when addressing PFAS challenges—a message that resonated strongly with all attendees.
We see a lot of progress in Europe regarding PFAS guidelines, it’s important that we focus on achievable outcomes for PFAS remediation and response.
The conference included stands from SOCOTEC, Regenesis, Murray Environmental, and Puragen, and also featured a number of presentations and networking sessions, allowing like-minded professionals to engage and share ideas with one another.
