Deformation 3D Monitoring

We provide high quality, tailored manual 3D monitoring systems to meet specific requirements. Robust monitoring systems are set up by our highly experienced survey teams to fulfil the project and specification requirements.  Monitoring systems are designed for individual sites to achieve repeatable high accuracy monitoring results. 3D monitoring systems consist of either geodetic monitoring prisms or reflective monitoring targets.  They will be utilised to suit the required accuracies, site constraints and the most cost effective solution. We use innovative high accuracy Leica Total Station for all 3D monitoring, with instrument accuracies of 1mm for distance and 1.0” of angle.  As required, we also have a number of 0.6mm and 0.5” total stations for those even more accurate monitoring requirements. Our historic monitoring data proves that we achieve very high accuracy monitoring results. On the site layout and constraints, the achievable monitoring accuracies are usually +/-1mm or better relative to the external reference points located outside the area of construction influence.

Question 2

Precise Level Monitoring

Accepted Answer

Precise Level Monitoring or as sometimes known Settlement Monitoring, will again be configured to meet the project and specification requirements.  Multiple datum points will be established at stable locations, outside the area of construction influence to which all precise level will be related. We use up to date high accuracy Leica Digital Precise Levels and Barcode Staff, which enable our experience surveyors to achieve high accuracy monitoring results.   Precise levelling is carried out as closed loop levelling observations and from our experience we achieve monitoring accuracies of around +/-0.25mm.

Question 3

Crack Monitoring

Accepted Answer

We undertake various methods of crack monitoring to meet the project requirements and access availability.  Easily  accessible cracks can be measured using Tell-Tale crack gauges, or metal pins with callipers.  Both these methods can give sub millimetre results of up to 0.1mm accuracy.   However, sometimes the cracks could be at high level meaning pins and callipers cannot be used.  Sometimes it is still possible to use a Tell-Tale if the measure can still be viewed, something with the aid of a survey total station.  Alternatively cracks can be measured by placing a 3d targets either side of a crack and then measured using a total station.  If both targets are measured from the same instrument position, the difference in distance between the pair of targets can be measure quite accurately, we would estimate to +/-0.2mm.

Question 4

Inclinometer Monitoring

Inclinometer tubes are placed inside piles to measure the vertical displacement of the pile in two directions, perpendicular and parallel to the line of piles.  Once the inclinometer tube is in place, an Inclinometer Probe is used to measure the pile verticality movement.  The probe, attached with a graduated electrical cable is dropped down the pile and stopped at 500mm intervals to take a reading.  The sensor is connected to an Android Mobile Readout Unit via the electrical cable to record the measures at each 500mm interval. Once the probe has been dropped down the pile in one face, the exercise is repeated on the reverse face of the probe to measure the reciprocal measurements.  Monitoring data can be displayed in tabular and graphic formats. Sometimes inclinometer monitoring is combined with a manual 3d monitoring points installed at the top of the pile.  This is used to verify the top of pile 3d movement and to use a base point to calculate the pile vertical movements.

Tape Extensometer Monitoring

A tape extensometer is a means of measuring very accurately between pairs of monitoring points.  The monitoring points usually consist of eye bolt to which the tape extensometer can hook onto at each end.  The Digital Tape Extensometer unit comprises a stainless steel measuring tape with equally spaced precision punched holes. The tape winds onto a reel, which incorporates a tape tensioning device and a digital LCD readout.  The device will record dimensions to 0.01mm, with an estimated accuracy of +/-0.1mm.

Line & Level Correlation Surveys

A line and level correlation survey is a survey to establish the accurate coordinate relationship between a site and the adjacent subsurface infrastructure.  For example, a site relative to a London Underground Train Tunnel. The survey is completed by undertaking a closed loop control traverse from the site, via a minimum to two surface to subsurface entry points into the tunnel below.  This method of closed loop traversing guarantees the surface to subsurface control coordination.  Once surface to subsurface control is established the tunnel survey can be completed to meet the clients requirement.  The survey can be generated in any CAD format, as two dimensional or three dimensional data.

Question 7

Track Geometry and Tunnel Gauging Survey

These surveys are carried out using our Amberg Trolley.  The track geometry will be complete using our Amberg 1000 Track Trolley with an associated high accuracy Leica total Station, to accurately coordinate the track.  This survey record the full tack geometry to include, Eastings, Northings and Levels coordinates, Track Cant, Twist and Gauge, the Horizontal and Vertical alignment, plus the track curvature.  Track geometry data can be supplied to meet the client needs and to full meet all railway infrastructure track standards. Tunnel gauging can be completed by either using our Amberg 3000 or Amberg 5000 systems.  The 3000 system consists of a profile scanner mounted on the Amberg trolley to measure tunnel or trackside feature positions relative to the track running rails.   The 5000 system consists of a helical scanner mounted on the Amberg trolley again to measure the tunnel or trackside features.  Using the 5000 system a great deal more information can be gathered very quickly and accurately. Both the 3000 and 5000 systems enable tunnel gauging to be completed and SCO files created.  These tabular SCO file can then be used to create a Clear Route report to show train clearance dimension to the tunnel or trackside features.
