    SOCOTEC'S Expert Webinar Series Continues!

As buildings become increasingly complex due to evolving construction methods, sustainability targets and net zero ambitions, fire engineering plays a critical role in delivering safe, practical and resilient designs.

This webinar will introduce the role of the fire engineer and explain how Performance-Based Design can be used where prescriptive fire safety guidance is not sufficient. Through a range of project examples, including tall building, large atria, airport terminals, heritage assets and innovative residential developments, we'll explore how robust fire safety strategies are developed and justified.

    In this webinar, you'll learn:

    • What fire engineers do and when they add value to a project
    • Why prescriptive guidance may not be suitable for complex buildings
    • When Performance-Based Design is appropriate
    • How fire engineering supports innovative design while maintaining fire safety
    • The methods used to assess and justify fire safety strategies

This webinar is deal for architects, developers, project managers, building surveyors and other built environment professional seeking a practical introduction to fire engineering and its role in modern building design.

How Should Fire Engineers Address Lithium-Ion Fire Risks?

With over 54% of greenhouse gas emissions from the cars and taxies, there is a large intensive to move to more carbon-friendly transport. As of June 2024, only 3% of the cars in the UK were fully battery electric, but the registration of electric vehicles has been rising significantly.

Advancing Fire Safety in the Rail Industry

    A Comprehensive Approach

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 sets stringent requirements for Responsible Persons (RPs), to mitigate fire risks effectively, emphasising the need for comprehensive risk assessments and proactive fire safety measures. The core of fire safety management revolves around the responsibility of RPs to conduct comprehensive fire risk assessments, recognising potential hazards and enacting suitable precautions to safeguard all individuals legally present within railway premises. However, the hurdles encountered in the rail sector are manifold, spanning from the intricacies of overseeing varied structures and sites to coordinating with numerous stakeholders sharing common facilities.
