Rave Reviews for new Book Authored by SOCOTEC Employee

A SOCOTEC UK and Ireland employee is celebrating after a series of five-star reviews landed for her debut book.

Elaine Chapman, Accounts Manager and Bookkeeper at Hutton + Rostron (A SOCOTEC Company), has authored ‘Stood Up’, a chick-lit novel that is set for release today! Thursday 28th August.

Ahead of the book’s official release, Elaine has seen a slew of five- and four-star reviews hit, with industry readers proclaiming, “I gobbled this book up and I'm so happy it's a debut novel because I'll absolutely be reading everything else this author writes”, and, “Loved this gorgeous take of a date gone wrong turning into a Hollywood romance for the ages!”

Speaking of the book’s impending release: “I’m happy that it’s getting out there, for sure, and we’ve had some really good, really positive reviews.

“The idea for the book stemmed from a dream that I had, and this was the basis of the first six or eight chapters, really. I didn’t tell anyone that I was going to write it, I just thought it would make a nice story – it’s a fun, chick lit romance.

“It took me nine months to put together a basic story, and then another year or so to flesh it out a bit.”

“There are definitely elements of me in Nikki [lead character Nikki Harper]. She is an employment lawyer, which I know nothing about…but she dances, I dance, she loves her garden and I love my garden.

“It feels quite exposing. I'm quite shy in some respects and self-doubting, too. To open myself up to a level of criticism is different for me. But as somebody said to me, the more criticism you get, the bigger you are.”

If that lead character’s name sounds familiar, it isn’t based on anybody at SOCOTEC! Elaine wrote the book long before joining Hutton + Rostron a year ago, and is already looking towards novel number two…“I have started writing my second book, it is sitting at about 70,000 words at the moment and the characters are slightly different.

“In ‘Stood Up’, we see things solely from our lead character’s point of view. The new one is written from the perspective of three different people – it’s about a small family company, and that’s all I’m going to say at the moment!”

‘Stood Up’ is published by The Book Guild Ltd, and is available to pre-order now
