My Apprentice Journey…

As I reflect on my apprenticeship journey, I am reminded of the invaluable experiences that both the Leadership and Management apprenticeship and the current Degree apprenticeship have afforded me. These programs, undertaken at different stages in my career at SOCOTEC, have been instrumental in shaping my professional growth and enhancing my contributions to the organisation.

One aspect of my Degree Apprenticeship that stood out was the exploration of materials structure and properties. This module not only piqued my interest but also served as a bridge, consolidating the knowledge I had gained during my tenure as a technician at SOCOTEC. Delving into various materials, this segment provided a profound understanding of finer details crucial to materials testing. What was particularly fulfilling was the ability to share this newfound knowledge with my team, fostering a deeper appreciation for the intricacies of our work.

During my time in the Leadership and Management apprenticeship, I acquired a plethora of skills and techniques that have proven invaluable in my role. Among the diverse topics covered, building a high-performing team resonated deeply with me. Applying these principles in my day-to-day work, I've been able to cultivate strong relationships within the lab team, contributing to its development and cohesion.

As my responsibilities evolved into a more managerial focus, the leadership apprenticeship became a cornerstone in supporting this transition. Over my five-year journey at SOCOTEC, progressing through the lab structure, this apprenticeship facilitated the next step in my career. With a keen interest in the technical and scientific aspects of my job, coupled with the desire to lead and develop others, the current Degree apprenticeship aligns seamlessly with my ambition and is helping me take the next steps in helping to run and manage a successful lab.

There also exists a noticeable gap in technical knowledge within our laboratory due to recent structural changes within the management staff. I am confident that the ongoing apprenticeship will empower me to fill this void and contribute significantly to the business's forward momentum.

Personally, I view these apprenticeships as golden opportunities for anyone's continuous learning and self-development. While balancing work, the apprenticeship, and personal life can be challenging, the rewards far surpass the efforts invested. I have a keen interest in computers and in my spare time, I like to develop video games. I haven't made anything particularly note-worthy, mostly little prototypes but I enjoy learning and practicing this skill when I can in my spare time.
