    Lauren on…her career at SOCOTEC

“Before joining SOCOTEC I was working as a Patient Services Coordinator at a healthcare company. It was my first ‘proper job’ after university!

“My career at SOCOTEC began in July 2019, when I joined as an HR Administrator. Building on this foundation, I was promoted to HR Advisor in June 2021. In January 2023, I took on the role of Learning and Development Business Partner, before progressing to my current position as HR Business Partner in January 2025.”

    Lauren on…her development

“My Business Management and HR degree, as well as my CIPD Level 5 gave me a good starting point, but honestly, the biggest thing has been the training I picked up in each role along the way. I've also been super lucky to have an amazing mentor who has helped me grow and progress.

“At the moment, my main focus is growing and gaining more experience in my current role. That said, I'm always up for new opportunities and challenges if they come along!”

    Lauren on…the support

“So many people have helped me along the way, but I've got to give a special mention to Tracie Hornbuckle, Senior HR Business Partner. She's been an amazing mentor to me since I became an HR Advisor back in 2021 and her guidance has made such a difference to my growth.”

    Lauren on…the challenges

“Honestly, I'd say one of the biggest challenges has been ‘imposter syndrome’, and I know it’s something a lot of people deal with. There have definitely been times when I've lacked confidence in my own ability, and that can really hold you back. But it's got so much easier with time and experience, and I feel a lot more confident in myself now.”

Lauren on…advice for pursuing this career

“Don't be so hard on yourself, and don't let imposter syndrome hold you back from putting yourself forward for things. It's completely normal to doubt your ability, especially early on, but confidence really does come with time and experience so trust the process a bit more.

“I'd also tell myself to lean into the training and mentoring on offer, because that's honestly been one of the biggest drivers of my growth. And finally, stay open to new opportunities, you never know where they might lead, and some of the best moves in my career so far weren't ones I necessarily planned for!”
