Waste Classification of Soils

On any brownfield construction site, waste classification of soils is a crucial step in determining whether soil material can be disposed of at a hazardous, non-hazardous or inert landfill.

Whatever the nature of the land being investigated, SOCOTEC has the knowledge and experience to carry out waste classification chemical analysis, interpretation and Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC) testing to the most exacting standards to ensure correct, cost-effective and legally compliant soil disposal.

SOCOTEC’s expert waste management team can provide comprehensive support in analysing soils from both land and marine sites to identify a wide range of contaminants, including asbestos, in order to classify material as hazardous or non-hazardous waste.  The results of WAC testing can subsequently be used to determine whether hazardous waste will be accepted at a hazardous landfill, and whether non-hazardous waste will be accepted at an inert landfill. With the support of SOCOTEC’s extensive network of UKAS and MCERTS accredited offices and laboratories, we can offer an industry-leading depth of technical expertise and resource to give clients the reliable data they need for successful waste classification.
