Business Ready – Operational Processes
Developing a plan to get back to work is one of the first steps to getting ‘business ready’ after this period of reduced activity.
SOCOTEC offers a range of services to support your organisational arrangements/operational procedures to ensure your employees can return to your facilities or sites safely.
COVID-19 Risk Assessments
As many workplaces begin the process of restarting business operations under the shadow cast by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is essential that they continually assess the risks of exposure to the virus while considering how they manage their duty of care to their employees, contractors and visitors.
The ongoing global pandemic will undoubtedly impact current safety behaviours, and the appropriate safeguards and risk controls should be agreed during the early stages of an organisation’s return to work plan. As part of this plan, a risk assessment needs to be undertaken to ensure full compliance and adherence to the relevant health and safety legislation, as well as new health and safety guidelines issued as a result of the pandemic.
Every workplace’s requirements will differ, with the hazards, risks and control measures specific to that particular organisation, its working activities and its employees. SOCOTEC is fully equipped to support your organisation in carrying out a suitable and sufficient COVID-19 risk assessment that is tailored to your individual business needs, helping you to implement the necessary safety protocols and measures to safeguard your employees against viral exposure and transmission.
COVID-19 Site Assessments
SOCOTEC can assess sites against a wide range of requirements, ensuring that businesses do not only comply with the standard health and safety regulations but also adhere to safety policies and social distancing measures that have been implemented as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of the COVID-19 Site Assessment service, SOCOTEC’s team of experts can visit your site to provide bespoke support, solutions and advice on a range of health and safety, hygiene and environmental concerns in line with the latest safety measures and procedures designed to protect employees against Coronavirus. Please note that all COVID-19 Site Assessments undertaken will adhere to the latest guidelines issued by the UK government.
COVID-19 Risk Assessment Training
SOCOTEC’s virtual COVID-19 Risk Assessment training provides delegates with the information required to carry out a risk assessment that is tailored to their individual business requirements, successfully meeting the legal and moral requirements and government guidelines issued as a result of COVID-19. The remote training forms one of a series of packages that SOCOTEC offers to get buildings COVID-assured, equipping employers with the reassurance and confidence that their buildings are ‘business ready’ and safe to return to.
The 1 hour 45-minute course outlines relevant areas of basic legislation and the importance of compliance, alongside key practical techniques that make up the risk assessment process. SOCOTEC can also provide delegates with a pandemic/COVID-19 Risk Assessment document template, with guidance provided on how to fill this in following successful completion of the training course.
To complete the Risk Assessment training, delegates will require access to an online device with speakers and a camera, as the remote course will be hosted through Zoom. Click here to access COVID-19 Risk Assessment online course.
Health and Safety Audits
Once a COVID-19 risk assessment has been completed, SOCOTEC's Health and Safety Consultancy team can monitor the safety of your facilities through audits and inspections, offering solution-based advice to make sure that you and your colleagues are safe to return to your workplace. SOCOTEC is also able to audit your workplace and provide a report based on the latest government guidance with regards to COVID-19.

Policy Check and Compliance
SOCOTEC is committed to providing clients with a broad range of services to ensure they remain fully compliant, with a particular focus on helping them to safely and legally restart business activity and operations that were reduced and halted as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak.
Expert teams across SOCOTEC can support and guide clients to evaluate and revise their health and safety policies, procedures and measures, making sure that they are fully compliant and up-to-date before they return to work/reoccupy their premises. As part of this offering, suitable teams are established for each individual client to verify that the risk assessment process is robust and the resulting safeguards and control measures are proportionate, concise and clear.

As the country begins to emerge from the COVID-19 lockdown, companies are encouraged to use the current situation as an ideal opportunity to review their safety culture, implementing a fresh approach to worker safety and wellbeing that reflects up-to-date social distancing and safety guidelines issued by the government. As part of its ‘Business Ready’ offering, SOCOTEC can provide clients with in-depth reports and a customised action plan, guiding and supporting organisations to ensure that they can safely and legally resume business operations.
A prime example of how SOCOTEC can support your organisation with its reporting requirements is through compliance with the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR), an area of legislation which has recently been updated to allow employees to record possible or actual exposure to Coronavirus in the workplace as a ‘dangerous occurrence’.
To ensure that your facilities are safe, compliant and operational in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, SOCOTEC’s range of testing, inspection and compliance services provides a complete solution to support and guide organisations through these challenging times.
