A method issued by the HSE in June 2014, this replaces and updates MDHS14/3, to which ESG was already accredited.
ESG performs dust exposure monitoring for a variety of clients, at their premises, as well as providing a gravimetric analysis service to third parties. The MDHS14/4 accreditation allows us to guide those who wish to collect the respirable, thoracic and inhalable aerosol fractions in air for the purpose of monitoring workplace exposure. It also provides analysis of the fractions using the gravimetric technique.
Martyn Deacon, ESG’s technical manager for Occupational Hygiene and Ruth Hobson, quality manager, reviewed MDHS14/4 and amended the relevant ESG internal procedures, before a successful submission to UKAS, with accreditation being granted on the 1 October 2014.
Martyn commented: “This accreditation ensures that we can provide our clients with the peace of mind that our processes, procedures and technical expertise regarding methods for sampling and gravimetric analysis of respirable, thoracic and inhalable aerosols are quality assured.”
The Occupational Hygiene teams, operating from ESG’s Bretby, Carcroft, East Kilbride and Romford sites, will continue to provide independent consultancy services, advising clients on the levels of dust exposure staff may be experiencing and offer suitable advice on controls to ensure exposures is as low as possible, in compliance with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations.
ESG will continue to provide a range of other occupational hygiene monitoring strategies, including: chemical tests, noise assessment and vibration (HAV) assessments on hand tools, hand arm and whole body vibration assessments and LEV assessments.
