    New Geotechnical App Launched

    Mon 02/23/2015 - 15:10

A new app for geotechnical specialists has been launched this month, by ESG, the UK's leading provider of testing, inspection and compliance services.

The development of SILAS forms part of the company’s £1 million investment in IT, and supports its substantial investment in its geotechnical offering.

SILAS allows ESG to offer customers an integrated collection, validation and handling system for all types of geotechnical field work, allowing its engineers to send data gathered onsite to the laboratory as soon as it is available. This not only saves vital time in the investigation process, but also helps reduce paper use, boost efficiency and support sustainability initiatives.

Specially developed for the geotechnical industry, SILAS allows ESG’s engineers to input and store a large amount of complex data regarding strata descriptions and site records, eliminating the risk of transcription errors to maximise data recording precision. The app is protected by multi-layered security and is integrated with a web based portal system for online viewing of the site operations, validation and scheduling of off-site testing.

Philip Ball, group technical director, ESG, commented: “There is a real movement across the geotechnical industry towards greater efficiency, particularly when it comes to data handling and lab testing and other key processes, all without compromising on quality.

“ESG is committed to leading this drive, and by investing in new and emerging technologies – such as our apps and mobile laboratories – we can continue to deliver the enhanced efficiency, quality and visibility that our clients require. Ultimately, SILAS will enable site records to be produced faster, and immediate online access to be provided for quality control, laboratory test scheduling and eventually reporting. We seek to set a new standard in the industry.”

ESG has been developing its own apps for more than 15 years, and the launch of SILAS follows the introduction of ESG’s Reinstatement Coring App in July last year. It has been developed to increase the efficiency and accuracy of reinstatement inspection carried out by ESG’s technicians on carriageways and footways, the app enables instant uploading of measurements, photographs and samples to maximise the accuracy of reporting for clients.
